Letter to the Editor,
After reading a letter to the editor written by Robert Hatch, I felt compelled to respond.
The information in his letter was not factual and extremely sexist and discriminatory. Mr. Hatch stated that youth can not grow pubic hair and brain cells at the same time. Well, do I have news for him! Many of the youth in our community are highly intelligent and mature. They make cookies every year and donate the money to local charities, volunteer their time to coach other kids in a variety of sports, work at the local Rec-Plex and take the time to do highway cleanup every year.
How is that irresponsible? How often does he talk to and observe the local youth’s behaviour and knowledge? Mr. Hatch also stated that young females are airheads. What gives him the right to call young females airheads?
Max Schmidt is a responsible and intelligent 14 year-old student who wrote a letter about an important issue. He displayed a higher level of maturity and definitely did not stoop to the level that Mr. Hatch did when he resorted to name calling and crude remarks.
Everyone has the right to state their opinion on insurance issues, but is it necessary to be uncivilized and rude?
Insurance premiums really isn’t the issue here: respect and decency is.

Letter to the Editor,
To the staff at Bonanza School
I thank you sincerely for the compliment you paid me by dedicating the Christmas Concert at Bonanza School in my honor.
The staff and students did a fine job in its presentation. Everyone enjoyed it.
Whatever I did for my community or for education in general, I did with pleasure. To gain recognition was not the object.
However, I must admit that your thoughtful recognition filled me with joy.
“God Bless You Everyone”.
Sincerely,
Vicki York

Letter to the Editor,
What is the Town of Spirit River thinking? They should be more than happy to give a long-term lease to the Spirit River Historical Museum. These volunteers have taken a dangerous barren hole (one that was used by many students as a short cut to the high school) and turned it into an exceptional tourist attraction. If the museum site wants to build a new building and improve even more their ability to maintain the history of the town and area, what is the problem with giving them in writing a guarantee of a 99 year lease?
I don’t know of any one that would want to go ahead with a major capital adventure without a guarantee of a long-term lease (in this instance). Shame on the council for treating with so little respect a volunteer organization that works hard to be self-sufficient and that is working for the community by wanting to make the museum an even better attraction by having the space to carefully preserve even more artifacts.
